Vaz Ferreira and Feminism

 

Dr. Amy A. Oliver is an American professor who has studied the works of Carlos Vaz Ferreira. She published an article called “The Roots of Carlos Vaz Ferreira’s Philosophy” in 2019. In that article she clearly tells us about how Vaz Ferreira was influenced by other philosophers and about his feminist philosophy.

In the article we can see how Vaz Ferreira's philosophy was influenced by like Herbert Spencer, Hugo Munsterberg and Charles Darwin, among others. 

Let’s see what Dr. Oliver tells us about Vaz Ferreira’s impact on feminism and women’s life in Uruguay:  

1)      He was influenced by many women, the first one to consider is his sister: María Eugenia.

2)      Other poets that influenced him were Delmira Agustini, Juana de Ibarbourou and Gabriela Mistral.

3)      He promoted women’s rights and was a key agent in the cultural change towards the role of women in society.
